How to Measure GEO

In dark space, a lower basin accumulates measurable particles; sufficient density triggers an upper luminous surge, symbolizing GEO's validation phase accumulating mentions to drive formal-stage natural traffic growth
GEO's core promise is measurable natural traffic growth; mention rate and ranking are process indicators, not results themselves; commitments are phased, with validation stage only guaranteeing mention increase

IN ONE SENTENCE

The primary commitment in GEO is measurable organic traffic growth; mention rate and average position are supporting metrics that explain the process, not the result.

The usual mistake in measuring GEO is treating 'being mentioned' as the result. Being mentioned is the process; measurable organic growth is the outcome a business can act on. Both belong on the report, but not at the same level.

OUR POSITION

Commitments should be tiered: a pilot commits only to a quantified lift in mentions; a full engagement commits to organic growth. Neither should commit to a specific rank, or to what happens after the visit — that depends on the product and the landing experience, which sit outside this work.

01

Primary: organic growth

Measure on first-party analytics and server logs, cross-checked against webmaster tools. Those sources define things differently: do not add them together, and do not adjust one to close the gap.

Visits created by AI often arrive after a branded search or a direct visit, so reading only the 'AI referral' channel understates the effect. Read branded search volume and direct traffic alongside it.

02

Secondary: mention rate and average position

These explain why traffic moved: broader question coverage, or better placement within the same questions.

Report them separately by language and by platform. Blending them hides a decline on one platform.

03

What should stay out of the commitment

A specific rank. AI answers have no stable position structure, so promising one promises something uncontrollable.

Post-visit conversion and revenue. These depend on product, pricing, landing pages and sales process — out of scope unless both sides share the data and the definition.

Traffic figures from third-party estimation tools. Useful for order-of-magnitude and competitive comparison, not as an acceptance baseline.
