A Review Has to Cut Something

IN ONE SENTENCE
A review's value is deciding what continues and what stops; an additive-only review keeps funding directions that return nothing.
The value of a review is not reporting numbers; it is deciding what continues and what stops. An additive-only review keeps routing resource into directions that return nothing.
OUR POSITION
Every review should produce at least one decision to cut. Not being able to usually means the tests were never defined — and a review without tests is a status meeting.
The four things each review reads
Band movement: how many pages moved 11–20 into 4–10, and 4–10 into 1–3. This is the primary test.
Mention rate and average position, split by language and platform rather than blended.
Cited-source composition: any structural shift. A whole category of source disappearing usually means the platform changed its retrieval behaviour.
Conversion: AI-channel visits and enquiries, plus movement in branded search and direct traffic.
The test for cutting
Directions ranking past thirty on high-difficulty terms: this category already returns almost nothing past eleven, so hard terms sitting past thirty should stop.
Page types never indexed: check the crawl layer first. If crawling is fine and they still are not indexed, they overlap existing pages or lack substance.
Page types never included in an answer: change the template rather than raising output.
Cadence follows the data
Mention rate suits weekly re-measurement, citation share monthly, referral traffic read monthly as a trend. Putting everything on a daily dashboard produces noise.
Directional reviews — cut or pivot — suit a four-week cycle, since indexing and ranking feedback takes two to four weeks to settle.
