Branded Search Lift

Volatile liquid evaporates into diffuse vapor; vapor then condenses into a dense central pool, symbolizing the complete path of a brand being seen then actively searched
Brand search volume increase is the hardest AI visibility metric to fake, reflecting the complete path of users seeing the brand then actively searching for it

IN ONE SENTENCE

Branded search lift is the hardest AI visibility outcome to fake: someone saw the brand in an answer and then went looking for it by name.

Branded search lift is the hardest AI visibility outcome to fake: someone saw the brand in an answer and then went looking for it by name.

OUR POSITION

It says more than AI referral traffic does. Referrals only count visits that carried a referrer, while branded search captures the full path of being seen first and sought out afterwards.

01

How to measure it

Split branded from non-branded queries in webmaster tools and read the monthly movement in branded impressions and clicks. Keep languages separate.

Read direct traffic alongside it. Someone who sees the brand in an answer and types the URL carries neither a referrer nor a search query.

02

Controlling for everything else

Paid media, PR and launches all lift branded search. Mark those dates before attributing anything, so someone else's result is not credited to AI visibility.

Branded query volume is seasonal. Look at three months of trend before drawing a conclusion.

03

Why it deserves its own line

AI referrals remain small in absolute terms — cross-site studies put the average near 1% of traffic — while branded search is a much larger pool where the effect is easier to see.

In developer-tool categories, branded queries account for the majority of leading sites' organic traffic. Branded search is the main battleground here, not a secondary metric.
